Arielconnect Drum: Hon. Onyekachi Ugwu on Focus "Nigeria"
Arielconnect Band:
A Nation of Melancholy
We live in a nation torn to shred
Where we all walk in fear and dread
For like broken bottles littered
We have had our future frittered
For now in Nigeria's land of milk and honey,
Where dreams should thrive and wallets be sunny,
The cost of living soars high and steep,
Forcing the rich and poor into a desperate leap.
From desert of emptiness we now for food scrape,
Our hopes eroded, our dreams torn cloths drape
Streets once safe now boil with fear,
As hunger-fueled chaos draws near
We citizens, driven by need so dire,
Loot and attack, our souls on fire,
In search of food, a basic need,
Anomie reigns, a brutal seed
As we now into the pit speed
How did we reach this bleak abyss,
Where plenty should abound, but something's amiss?
Nigeria, rich in resources untold,
Yet its people suffer, hearts grown cold
Yes a cold coming we all have of it
For the drum of melancholy we do beat
Let us rise from this pit of despair,
Unite in hope, rebuild and repair,
Tearing down they that have us torn
To shred, a future bleak is born
A nation's strength lies in its unity,
Together we can overcome this adversity
But first we must gather the wit and brawn
To suffer the enemies with a frown
Unleash the menace they hoist
Upon them, for hurt we must foist
Until we recover the lost years
Though we roll and fight in tears
