Security: Hope Rises as Ezugwu Becomes PDP Chairmanship Candidate in Uzo-Uwani

The victory of Barrister Chijioke Ezugwu as the flag bearer for the chairmanship position of the People's Democratic Party in the upcoming 5th October Local Government Elections has filled the people of Uzo-Uwani council area with joy. There is hopeful anticipation for a return to normalcy in the council, with an emphasis on revitalizing the agricultural sector and restoring peace and harmony in the community.

During our interviews with locals from Nimbo, Adani, Nkpologu, and Adaba, representing the four Development Centres of the council, one significant aspect that emerged was the importance of a committed security system. All the interviewees believed that Barrister Ezugwu has the credibility and capability to lead from the front in this regard.

Ogbobe Utazi expressed gratitude to the PDP family and the Governor for prioritizing the security of lives and properties in the local government. He viewed the choice of Chijioke Ezugwu as a significant move to reposition and restore the council to its former glory.

"We are overjoyed with the position of the PDP and its supporters. We were once concerned that those in power would divert or undermine efforts to tackle insecurity in our area. But thanks to His Excellency's determination in making the right choice, Uzo-Uwani can now address the issues that have plagued us. In recent times, our council has become a hotspot for crime and criminality, with vast uncultivated and underutilized land providing cover for miscreants and criminal-minded herdsmen.”

"Indeed, Chijioke Ezugwu has previously demonstrated the necessary skills to curtail the activities of criminals and herders who live violently in our council. During his time as the CSO of the council, he dealt with these criminal elements effectively. However, they resurfaced once he stepped aside. We are glad that he will now have control over the entire security architecture," his statements read.

Mr. Innocent Diugwu, while commending the courageous choice of the Peoples Democratic Party, called for a more comprehensive security system. He emphasized the need for an enhanced chain of command and the elimination of the bottlenecks that hamper smooth communication and actions against criminals.

"We are not satisfied with the way things have been in recent years. We believe that under Barrister Chijioke Ezugwu, things will improve. He is a man of action and few words. I have personally experienced his determination and eagerness to protect the dignity of individuals in our community. He risked his life several times on highways and in the bushes to ensure that we can live freely without intimidation from criminals who have made our local government their haven for criminal activities. While we acknowledge the existing infrastructural decay in the council, what concerns us the most is putting an end to living in fear of attacks and the destruction of our properties by local and foreign criminals. I have no doubt that he will do an excellent job as the Chairman of the local government," Innocent expressed.

Nicholas Ogbobe expressed high praise for the PDP and Uzo-Uwani as a whole. "Adada zone has been the only zone that has not produced a chairman since the return of democracy in 1999. The sacrifices made from all corners of Uzo-Uwani to ensure that Adada produces the next chairman are noted and will not be forgotten anytime soon. It is even more interesting that Chijioke is the chosen one. He has dedicated every fiber of his being to improving the conditions of his immediate community and beyond. He is a master at solving security issues, which have been the major challenge we face due to the infiltration of our communities by unknown local and foreign armed men who terrorize our local government. I will forever appreciate the Governor of Enugu State for his concern and for taking decisive action," he said.

Frederick Ogwudile did not hold back in his admiration for Mr. Ezugwu, describing him as the perfect fit for Uzo-Uwani's current needs. "Chijioke is exactly what Uzo-Uwani needs at this time, and I wholeheartedly support his candidacy and hope he wins. The past has left a trail of destruction that needs to be eradicated, and no one is better suited for this task than Chijioke. He is the right person, and Uzo-Uwani will benefit greatly from his leadership after his tenure," Ogwudile maintained.

Meanwhile, the traditional rulers of Uzo-Uwani have shown solidarity in Ezugwu's candidacy stating that his ability to quell the insecurity bedeviling the people is never in doubt, stressing that there's need for all political actors to come together and assist in restoring Uzo-Uwani to its former glory as the food basket of the state.
